B2B FAQs
Does an IKFT Advisory Services engagement guarantee a badge upgrade?
Definitely No. IKFT Advisory Services is a private consultancy that helps hotels improve their family readiness. It does not influence your IKFT Recognized badge in any way. Badge outcomes are determined independently through our annual review of publicly available data. Advisory fees cover professional consulting resources only not badge outcomes.
Yes. If you believe our public data analysis is factually incorrect, we encourage you to use our free Public Appeals Process to submit correcting evidence.
Can I try to correct a "Recognized" rating without paying?
Why don't paid advisory services change our badge?
IKFT Recognized badges are determined through independent editorial review of publicly available data. No hotel pays for a badge. Advisory Services operate under a completely separate identity (IKFT Advisory Services) and the data from advisory engagements does not feed into the badge algorithm. If advisory helps a hotel improve, those improvements will naturally appear in public data (better reviews, updated website, improved online listings) and may be picked up by the Kidmetrix algorithm at the next annual May Edition.
What do you mean by IKFT Audit’and ‘KFT Standards?
IKFT Audit means a structured independent review/observation against IKFT Kidmetrix™ indicators, limited to what can be checked or observed at the time.
IKFT Standards means IKFT’s internal IKFT Kidmetrix™ criteria and thresholds used to form IKFT recognitions. They are not regulatory standards and do not guarantee any future experience.
What is the difference between the IKFT Recognized badge and IKFT Advisory Services?
IKFT Recognized is the sole public trust mark, a free, independent evaluation of a hotel's family-friendliness based entirely on publicly available data (hotel websites, guest feedback, and other publicly accessible information). It is never paid for and is updated annually at each May Edition. IKFT Advisory Services is a separate, voluntary B2B consultancy that helps hotels improve their family readiness through private assessments, operational roadmaps, and staff training. Advisory data does not feed into the badge algorithm. These are two completely separate operations.
Our hotel recently opened or completed a major renovation, can we be considered before the next May Edition?
Yes. Hotels that have never been assessed by IKFT can express interest at any time through our Contact page. Our analysts review submissions on a rolling basis, and if your property meets the entry-level Kidmetrix threshold, a badge can be awarded immediately, there is no need to wait for the annual May Edition. However, if your hotel was previously assessed and did not meet the required standard, reconsideration takes place at the next May Edition only. Badge upgrades (for example, Bronze to Silver) also follow the annual cycle.
How often are the awards updated?
The 2026 Inaugural Edition launches in May, with new markets and hotels added on a rolling basis throughout the year. From 2027, all badge upgrades and downgrades are published at the annual May Edition. There are no mid-year badge changes. The only exception is "Under Review," which can be applied at any time for child safety concerns but this is downward only. This annual timing firewall ensures consistency and protects the integrity of every hotel's recognition.
How are International Kids friendly travel awards granted? Can a business pay to receive one?
Definitely No. The outcome is based purely on the evidence gathered. A badge level can be upgraded, remain the same, or be downgraded if the assessment reveals that public data was inaccurate. Our commitment is to accuracy.
If my "Recognized" rating seems wrong, is my only option a paid service
No. If you believe our public data analysis contains a factual error, we encourage you to use our free Public Appeals Process to submit correcting evidence.
How does a property receive an IKFT Recognized™ award? Do we need to apply?
No formal application is required. International Kids Friendly Travel continuously reviews publicly available data across the hotel industry. If your property demonstrates a consistent standard of family friendly features and positive guest feedback, it may be automatically considered for recognition during our annual Edition.
However, if your hotel has not yet been assessed by International Kids Friendly Travel, you are welcome to submit your property for consideration. Hotels that have not been previously reviewed can be assessed at any time and if your property meets the required standard, recognition can be awarded outside of the annual cycle.
If your hotel has already been assessed and did not meet the threshold for recognition, it will be reconsidered at the next annual Edition. We encourage you to continue strengthening your family friendly offering in the meantime.
How long is an IKFT Recognized badge valid for?
Your IKFT Recognized badge remains current until the next IKFT Edition. Each year, our Kidmetrix framework reassesses all hotels. Your badge level may stay the same, move up, or move down depending on what the public data shows at the time of review.
How do you assess a 3 star hotel versus a 5 star hotel?
We don’t expect a 3★ hotel to match a 5★ resort’s facilities, but we do expect it to be consistently clean, welcoming, and thoughtfully designed for children within its class. Our scoring thresholds are calibrated by star category.
What do we actually get from IKFT, what are the deliverables?
Through International Kids Frienfdly Travel Advisory Services, you receive (1) a structured scorecard mapped to IKFT Kidmetrix™ categories, (2) a concise executive summary highlighting strengths, risks, and quick wins, and (3) a prioritized improvement plan with effort/impact notes. These materials are a private, confidential report for your internal use. They support staff training, owner communications, and brand positioning. Advisory deliverables do not influence or change your IKFT Recognized badge, they help you understand where to improve so those improvements naturally show up in your public presence over time.
What is the self-assessment tool?
Check your family readiness with our free online tool. Answer questions about your hotel's facilities, services, and safety features across IKFT's family focused categories. Receive a private readiness report with improvement suggestions. This is for your internal use only and does not affect your IKFT Recognized badge. Hotels that score well may be good candidates for IKFT Advisory Services if they want professional guidance on further improvements.
How long does the process take from start to finish?
For IKFT Recognized badges, our Kidmetrix algorithm reviews publicly available data as part of the annual Edition cycle. For IKFT Advisory Services, timelines depend on the service level: desk advisory engagements are typically completed within 2/4 weeks, hybrid assessments within 4 / 6 weeks, and full onsite advisory within 6/8 weeks including reporting. We provide a scheduling window during onboarding. Advisory fees cover professional consulting resources only, not badge outcomes.
How does star category fairness work in practice?
We calibrate thresholds by 3★/4★/5★ so a well-run 3★ property isn’t compared to a luxury 5★. For example, a 3★ with clear stroller routes, family-practical services, and accurate pre-arrival information can outperform a higher star hotel that under delivers on basic family suitability. Scoring remains like for like within each class.
What happens if we fall short of Bronze?
Bronze requires a minimum Kidmetrix score based on publicly available data. If your hotel's public data does not meet the Bronze threshold, you will not appear in the IKFT Directory for that Edition. You can improve your public presence (better guest reviews, clearer family friendly information on your website and OTA listings) and be reconsidered at the next annual Edition. IKFT Advisory Services can help you identify and prioritize improvements, but there is no guarantee of a badge any improvement must be reflected in your publicly available data.
How often do we need to renew?
There is nothing to renew. IKFT Recognized badges are free and automatically reassessed at each annual Edition
How do you assess properties for children with disabilities?
This is a core pillar of our mission. We go far beyond basic ramp access. Our framework analyzes the entire experience, from the clarity of accessibility information on the website to the practical realities of the room. We look for tangible features like sensory friendly spaces, accessible bathrooms, and staff awareness, publishing our findings in plain language so families can make informed choices.
What are IKFT Kidmetrix™?
IKFT Kidmetrix™ are the detailed criteria we use to evaluate how well a hotel supports families and children. Our algorithm reviews publicly available data across practical areas such as for example:
• Arrival & navigation with kids (stroller practicality, family flow)
• Room & sleep practicality (cot readiness, layouts, noise/light comfort)
• Bathrooms & baby/toddler practicality (family routines support)
• Dining comfort for kids (high chairs, kids options, allergy information clarity)
• Play & rest spaces (indoor/outdoor balance, calm zones)
• Pool/leisure family usability (where applicable)
• Accessibility & inclusion usability (step-free practicality, sensory considerations)
• Staff approach & family readiness (observed service behavior)
We show the categories publicly but do not publish the specific scoring weights or formulas to protect independence and fairness.

IKFT Kidmetrix™ is the proprietary term we created. It stands for Kid + metrix = kid metrix = Kidmetrix.
Is IKFT a “certificate”? Can we request a certificate PDF?
No presently. International Kids Friendly Travel is an independent recognition program, not a certification body. Outcomes are expressed through badges and formal reports. Future certification style attestations may be introduced but no certification is currently issued.
How do you handle multi property groups or franchises?
We review each property on its merits because guest experience is location specific. Groups can coordinate scheduling and portfolio level insights, but outcomes remain property level with their own unique IDs. Corporate level patterns (e.g., policy, training) can positively influence properties if they’re consistently delivered on site.
Can we display the IKFT badge on our website and marketing materials?
Yes. Recognized hotels may display their assigned badge with the correct tier and year (for example, "IKFT Recognized Silver 2026"). Detailed badge usage terms are provided separately to recognized properties. The IKFT Directory remains the official registry where guests can verify any badge's current status.
What are the Main IKFT Kidmetrix™?
The seven Main IKFT Kidmetrix™ are an entry framework and typically include signals such as:
• Consistent family‑relevant sentiment in guest feedback.
• Clear “good for kids/families” positioning and family‑ready room options feedback in public info.
• Family dining signals (breakfast / restaurant availability and suitability)
• Accessibility & inclusion information clarity
• Operating as a hotel / Resort hotel categories (3★/4★/5★) including superior.
• Evidence of family facilities (e.g., pool/s, play areas, babysitting, kids clubs, where applicable)
• Location suitability for families (nature, beaches, parks, family attractions, or practical city/village access)
The stronger the publicly verifiable evidence of family facilities and parent support (e.g., kids activities, babysitting/childcare support, family rooms, stroller‑friendly routes, family rooms / suites, restaurant kid menu / breakfast options, themed rooms), the higher a Recognized tier a property may reach within its category.
Can we see the full IKFT Kidmetrix™ list?
We publish the Main IKFT Kidmetrix™ categories (7 pillars and branches) used for IKFT Recognized badges. The specific scoring weights, formulas, and detailed checklists are proprietary and not published to preserve independence and fairness across markets. IKFT Advisory Services clients receive a prioritized improvement report outlining the most impactful actions, but not the raw score matrices.
Why are scoring weights and thresholds not public?
Because our goal is real world accuracy, not “form filling.” Publishing weights would allow selective preparation and reduce objectivity. IKFT therefore keeps detailed scoring confidential while sharing the framework, methodology, and results.
Each assessment is:
-
Calibrated by hotel star class (3★/4★/5★)
-
Reviewed under governance oversight
-
Supported by an appeals pathway
-
Summarized transparently in the Directory and Prove It pages.
International Kids Friendly Travel reserves the right to update its methodology periodically to reflect evolving family travel needs and accessibility standards.
Can I send a donation to IKFT? Can we contribute with some small benefits?
Definitely No. IKFT does not accept donations, gifts, or benefits from evaluated entities. Our work is funded solely through professional review and advisory services, ensuring independence and objectivity.

Any attempt to influence IKFT’s evaluation processes through payments, gifts, or benefits is treated as a serious breach of ethics and may lead to exclusion from all IKFT programs.
How can IKFT be independent if hotels pay fees?
No hotel pays for its IKFT Recognized badge, the badge is free, always. Hotels only pay if they voluntarily engage IKFT Advisory Services, which is a completely separate consultancy. Advisory fees cover professional consulting resources, not badge outcomes. Advisory data does not feed into the badge algorithm. All badge decisions are based solely on independent editorial review of publicly available data.
Will our 3★ or 4★ hotel be penalized for not having the large scale facilities of a 5★ hotel resort?
Absolutely not. Our Kidmetrix™ framework evaluates your property strictly within the context of your official star category. A boutique hotel is never expected to feature the massive infrastructure of a luxury resort.
However, to maintain market fairness and guest trust, our algorithm also incorporates a dynamic pricing metric. If a property commands premium, luxury-level daily room rates, our framework naturally expects the family services, staff empathy, and practical amenities to reflect that premium market positioning. This ensures that properties offering exceptional, honest value at any star level are fairly recognized and can compete strongly in the global family market.
Why is my hotel not listed as IKFT Recognized™?
Common reasons include:
Scope: IKFT currently evaluates 3★ / 4★ / 5★ hotels in launch markets.
Timing: your property may not yet have been assessed. Hotels not previously reviewed can submit for consideration at any time via our Contact page.
Evidence: public information may be incomplete or inconsistent (family room clarity, dining fit, accessibility clarity, family facilities evidence, etc.), making it impossible to confirm baseline signals at Recognized level.
Naming: rebrands/duplicate listings can delay matching.
Status logic: if a hotel misuses badges or fails to maintain standards, status may be changed in the Directory (Active / Suspended / Expired where applicable).
What to do:
Request our no‑fee eligibility check via the Contact page.
If you believe public information was assessed incorrectly, use the free Public Appeals Process (Recognized level) to submit correcting evidence
How does the Platinum tier work?
Platinum is the highest IKFT Recognized tier. It requires two consecutive years at Gold level before a hotel can be considered for Platinum. This means the earliest any hotel can achieve Platinum is May 2028 (requiring Gold in both the May 2026 and May 2027 Editions). This rule ensures that Platinum truly reflects sustained, long-term excellence in family friendliness rather than a single strong year. Like all other tiers, Platinum is based entirely on publicly available data and is free.
What are IKFT Travel Mode Tags and how are they used?
IKFT Travel Mode Tags (Nature & Retreat / Splash & Play / City & Discovery) describe the stay style and help families filter faster. They are not award tiers and do not change Bronze/Silver/Gold outcomes. If a hotel believes a tag is incorrect or have an extra tag, it may submit correcting evidence through the standard corrections route.
