The IKFT Mark of a Kid Friendly
Welcome
Understanding the IKFT Awards.
The IKFT™ Awards highlight 3★, 4★ and 5★ hotels and resorts
that show a clear focus on families.
IKFT recognitions are independent family suitability evaluations based entirely on independent desk research of publicly available information.
International kids friendly travel uses one public recognition system: IKFT Recognized.
International kids friendly travel Recognized uses four tiers: Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum, based entirely on independent desk research of publicly available data. The 2026 Inaugural Edition launches in May, with new markets and hotels added progressively throughout the year.
From 2027, all badges follow the annual May Edition cycle.
How IKFT
Recognized Works
Every hotel is assessed using the same independent methodology based on publicly available data
IKFT Kidmetrix™ evaluates structured criteria across family relevant categories. The assessment is desk based, drawing on publicly available information including guest feedback and official hotel communications.
We look for consistent family relevant signals across: guest feedback patterns, family positioning and room fit, family dining, accessibility clarity, hotel category, family facilities, and location context.
The IKFT Kidmetrix™ framework covers practical areas such as: arrival and navigation with kids, room and sleep practicality, bathroom and baby/toddler support, dining comfort for kids, play and rest spaces, pool (if any) and leisure usability, accessibility and inclusion, and overall family readiness. All assessments follow the annual review cycle. For the 2026 Inaugural Edition, new markets and hotels are added on a rolling basis as reviews complete. From 2027, all results are published at the annual May Edition.
Fair Recognition Across Every Hotel Category & Pocket
International Kids Friendly Travel criteria are calibrated by hotel category (3★ / 4★ / 5★) and by country to support fair, like-for-like comparison. Each market has its own family friendly baseline, so a Gold in one country may not be directly comparable to a Gold in another both reflect outstanding performance within their own context. Each market has its own family friendly baseline shaped by local hospitality culture and guest expectations. A hotel is assessed relative to the standards within its own country and star category. This means a Gold badge in one country may not be directly comparable to a Gold in another, both reflect outstanding performance within their own market context.
Within IKFT Recognized, levels are Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum. Platinum requires two consecutive years at Gold level, with the earliest possible Platinum awards in the May 2028 Edition.
Recognitions reflect information available at the time of review and are not guarantees of personal experience. Earning any IKFT badge is a genuine achievement. Only a fraction of the 215,000+ hotels and resorts in our initial scan meet the standard for recognition. A Bronze badge does not mean a hotel is less special it means the property meets real family suitability standards while offering fewer dedicated kids specific features. For many families, a Bronze property may be the perfect choice.
IKFT recognitions assess family suitability based on publicly available information at the time of review. They represent our independent professional opinion and are intended as helpful guides, not guarantees of service quality or personal experience. They do not certify compliance with health, safety, or regulatory requirements. Conditions may change, and families should confirm current details directly with each hotel.

Before You Book:
How to Use IKFT Results Wisely
A quick guide to getting the most from our ratings
Every badge is earned within
its own class, market and or area.
A 3-star hotel is not expected to offer what a 5 star resort provides. A city-centre hotel is not expected to have the space of a countryside retreat. IKFT understands this and our scoring reflects it.
When we assess a 3 star hotel, we ask: "Is this hotel doing a good job for families within what a 3 star hotel can reasonably offer?" The same question applies to 4 star and 5 star properties, each measured against its own category The same applies across countries. Family hospitality standards differ between markets, and IKFT accounts for this so badges reflect genuine excellence within each country's context.
This means a 3 star Gold hotel and a 5star Gold hotel are both excellent for families, but they offer very different experiences at very different price points.
What the badge tells you and what it doesn't.
The IKFT badge tells you: "At the time of our review, this hotel showed genuine evidence of welcoming families with children, measured fairly within its star category.
The IKFT badge does NOT tell you:
That every visit will be identical to what we reviewed. Hotels have busy days, quiet days, renovations, seasonal changes, and staff turnover. These are normal realities of travel that affect every hotel in the world, including the very best.
That a higher badge means a more expensive or luxurious experience. A 3-star Silver may cost €80 per night. A 5-star Bronze may cost €400 per night. The badge measures family suitability, not luxury or price.
That two hotels with the same badge will feel the same. A Splash & Play Gold resort with waterslides in Spain feels completely different from a City & Discovery Gold hotel near a museum in Vienna. Both are Gold. Both are excellent for families. But they serve different types of trips.
That the hotel owes you specific services because of its badge. The IKFT badge is an independent guide for parents it is not a contract between you and the hotel. Hotel staff may not be aware of their IKFT status, and the badge should not be used to request upgrades, discounts, or special treatment.
...and avoiding common misunderstandings.
Comparing hotels fairly.
To choose well, always consider three things together:
The star category (3, 4, or 5 stars) tells you the general level of facilities and service to expect.
The Travel Mode Tag (Splash & Play, Nature & Retreat, or City & Discovery) tells you what kind of family experience the hotel is best suited for.
The IKFT badge level (Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum) tells you how strongly that hotel performs for families within its class.
A 4-star Nature & Retreat Silver in the Austrian Alps and a 4-star City & Discovery Silver in Barcelona are both strong choices — but for very different holidays. Comparing them to each other would be like comparing hiking boots to city trainers. Both are good shoes. Different purpose.
What IKFT is and what it is not
IKFT assessments are based on information available at the time of review and may contain errors or outdated details. Conditions at any hotel can change. Always verify key details on the hotel's own website or by contacting the property directly before booking.
International kids friendly travel is an independent guide. We help you make more informed decisions. We do not guarantee outcomes, we do not act as a travel agent, and we do not mediate between families and hotels.
If your experience at a hotel is significantly different from what our badge suggests, we genuinely want to hear about it your feedback helps us keep the directory honest and accurate. But the badge itself is not a basis for complaints, refunds, or claims against the hotel. It reflects what we independently assessed based on publicly available information at the time of our review and nothing more.
We built this system using the logic of a parent every criterion we check is something a mother, father, grandparent, or guardian would genuinely care about. No hotel can buy a higher badge. No hotel can pay to avoid a lower one. And no family should use a badge for anything other than what it is: a helpful, honest starting point for choosing where to stay.
